I teach fourth grade in a public school in Parker, Colorado. I have a diverse mix of students with a wide range of academic ability. These children are very enthusiastic, eager to learn, and a joy to teach! Along with my homeroom class, I also teach a mix of fourth graders during our math block. During this school year alone, your donation will impact the lives of up to seventy-five children. Thank you for considering our project!
My classroom is a place where students learn and grow from each other.
One of the things I love most about our school is some of the students who strengthen our classrooms with their diverse learning needs. In our classroom, we have students with a wide range of social, emotional, and academic abilities. All students strengthen our classroom and school by creating empathetic, accepting, and caring peers. I love my students, their families, my colleagues, and my school because we are always there for each other.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
This project will give students a comfortable place to do their work as well as lap desks to make doing the work easy.
The cubbies will provide students with storage space for their supplies, so they are able to move throughout the room where they are most comfortable working, instead of keeping all their supplies in their desks. I have seen, first hand, the benefits of flexible seating in the classroom.
Kids feel more comfortable and are thereby more motivated to do their best work.
