I have a variety of students. I have an inclusion class with our low students. I love seeing their faces go from total confusion to the light bulb going off and seeing a huge smile on their faces when they are successful. My other class are mixed with lower to average students. I've been teaching 33 years and love it. The majority of my students come from very low to poverty level households.
This year I'm striving to group my individual classes daily into extending learning to total reteaching the previous day's lesson.
Having the tall tables allows my more active students the freedom to sit and stand which helps to keep them focused. It will also allow me a neat area to work in small groups.
I like students to have color pencils so they can write each step in a different color. It's a different strategy for those struggling. I also use small marker boards for students to work their problems when we're practicing problems. It's much easier for me to see everyone's answers at the same time which allows me to group them accordingly.
My Project
My students will not have to worry about not having the necessary supplies for class.
The flexible seating with the table and stools gives the students the feeling of a learning center rather than a classroom with rows of boring desk that are uncomfortable for their growing bodies.
The wipes will be used to wipe tables and chairs to keep them germ free.
A typical day starts with the warm up which students will use my white boards and the requested dry erase markers. I can walk around and see their work without having to lean over and see their work. Students will also work problems while I'm teaching and write their answers and show me. Other students will not see the answers which allows me to group them without students knowing which group is which.
The color pencils will be used when teaching standards that require several steps so they will have a visual of the steps.
At the end of class I can have students work a problem on the board and show their answers so I can plan for the next day's groups.
