My students need wobbly chairs and bouncy ball chairs to help them stay focused while working. Flexible seating will strengthen our classroom environment and give students the option to move while learning.
My 2nd grade classroom is full of diverse students from many different backgrounds. They all have different learning styles and abilities. My students come from all over the world and are excited to learn. I have set up my classroom so the students can work in small groups and have many opportunities to discuss and reflect on what they have learned. This builds confidence and independence.
I want to instill a love of learning.
I want to challenge them and engage them while teaching them how to respect others.
My Project
The objects I would like for my classroom will help so many of my 7 year old students learn. In 2nd grade, students love to move while working. These items are essentially large fidgets and allow them the flexibility to move while learning. Flexible seating is a choice provided to students that allows them to work around the room comfortably and focused. It provides students the environment they need to do their best. These seating arrangements can look wildly different from room to room, and the depth of implementation can too! Students do their best standing, kneeling, or in a number of positions that only little bodies find comfy.
I truly believe flexible seating is the way to make children eager to learn!
The rugs will go under the throw pillows that will serve as a low table to work on while using the math manipulatives centers. The bouncy bands will go around the desk of my ADHD students to help them sit when necessary. The wobble chairs will go around a table that the students can sit at to work independently and the bean bag chair is for the classroom library. I will use the bouncy chairs at my guided table for small group work.
