Flexible seating: A great option in a Special Needs classroom!
Help me give my students the chance to experience flexible seating in the classroom. Furniture that would allow them to sit and still move at the same time! So important when challenged with ADD and ADHD.
I have the good fortune of being able to work with a group of students who are unique learners, each using their own special gifts to access the curriculum and make contributions to our classroom community.
Some of our students are able to show their talents through traditional means while others show their creativity in very different ways.
We have a student who uses an eye gaze communication system--he's sharp and witty and tells a mean joke! Others create the most amazing artwork to share their point of view. It is a diverse community of learners, that's for sure!
My Project
I have a diverse group of learners in my classroom, many who are faced with a variety of learning challenges. Research shows that if students can choose where they sit or stand, where they feel they can best learn, there is an increase in attention and focus.
Imagine being able to sit in a bean bag chair, a wobble stool or have access to fidgets to keep your hands or feet busy, so your mind can focus on the curriculum...the possibilities are exciting!
We would love the opportunity to share some of these options with our students during the coming school year.
