My students need flexible seating as to support their physical needs as I believe that as students follow their own path, and pace, in learning. The materials will be used in my classroom.
At my school, we work with students in building relationships, connecting concepts and skills across the curriculum, establishing common expectations, and working together to have open lines of communication with parents. High expectations and excellence are top priorities at our school as we strive for each student to put forth their maximum “effort” in their quest to become successful learners.
Our school motto is "Effort Creates Achievement." My sixth students come from different facets of life, for instance, some students come from challenging economic conditions while some come in for hot meals and a study in safe learning environment.
My Project
In today’s fast growing technological world, the delivery of instruction in our education system is shifting from a traditional classroom, teacher directed, versus 21st-century Student-centric classroom as it helps in promoting active learning and helping the student to work on innovative skills necessary for the real world
A flexible classroom experience, will allow choice in learning, in regards to their physical seating arrangement.
As I personalize instruction to meet my students’ academic needs, it is very crucial to provide my students with the best learning environment on a budget.
My current classroom is an illustration of a 21st-century learning space in progress. Last year, I had attached desks that limited mobility and was often difficult for students to collaborate in groups. The current seating arrangement has allowed social dialogue and interaction. Research has shown that the layout of the classroom improves concentration, encourages better academic and social behavior, and enhances learning and student achievement in schools. The simple act of standing during work using a standing desk helps students with cognitive benefits like improved executive function and working memory that we are just beginning to understand.
I am writing this to request my parent community and stakeholders to support my vision as I move forward in building a 21st Century Classroom. My vision is to build a flexible classroom that promotes a sense of well-being, physically and psychologically and limit distractions. I have been brainstorming ideas for items and in order to provide an optimal learning environment, I need tables, kidney table, and seat cushions, privacy dividers, and several classroom materials.
