Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special. When students enter my class, they are not just my students, they are my family. We work together from day one as a team. The students know that I have a vested interest in them not only as a student but also as a friend. They are family.
My students are passionate about wanting to do well.
Many have barriers with their home, life, and their language that enable them to do the best that they can. My students come from predominantly Hispanic and Haitian households with English as a second language. Parents have a hard time helping them with homework assignments. That home school connection is there but makes it hard to communicate as easily as other families because of the language barrier.
My Project
These materials will absolutely be an excellent addition to my classroom. I currently have no flexible seating within the classroom. I have many students that would benefit from the choice in seating as well as current leveled readers. My reading collection is not as exciting as it could be. Students in my class are encouraged to be lifelong readers. You are only as good as what you can provide emotionally, physically, and educationally. I want my students to feel safe and welcome. I want them to see the value of reading and becoming a reader. Flexible seating encourages students to feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom.
