Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a title one school where most of my students come from low-income homes or are English language learners. Fortunately, our school is able to offer 100% free breakfast and lunch to all of our students. But, it is difficult for these families to provide all the necessities for the success of their children's education.
As a first year teacher, it is difficult to create a warm and inviting learning environment without the right tools.
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to keep things fun, engaging, and provide my students with a meaningful learning experience.
My Project
My students love to learn but sitting in those hard chairs all day is exhausting. They need more flexible/comfortable seating options to enhance student engagement and focus. Studies show that students learn better when they are able to move and expel pent up energy. Students need to have the flexibility to change their seat and refocus. Seating options I hope to provide my students are balance balls, stability cushions, wobble chairs, and bean bags. With these options my students will have the opportunity to sit more comfortably and move around while learning. The stability cushions and bean bags will be used for centers work and group work, while the balance balls and wobble chairs will be used for alternatives during the day. Students will also have the opportunity to stand if they want to choose that option. This project would significantly help my students stay engaged in our learning throughout the day. They spend most of their time inside my classroom and I want them to feel comfortable. I cannot wait to see all of the things we can do with flexible seating!
