Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a bilingual teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My plan is to make their experience in the classroom like a home away from home.
My students are very energetic and eager to learn.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. I have a mix of students who come from single-parent homes to homes with grandparents to homes with both parents.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I treat them like they were my own children (even though I do not have any of my own yet). I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. K
By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The materials I have chosen like the bean bag chairs will give my students the chance to have that flexible seating choice they need while they learn in my classroom. The multi-color seating pads will also provide my students another choice to seat in the classroom with some comfort while learning. I have students who have ADHD and being able to sit on a bean bag chair or a comfort pad or even the faux fur chair will help them stay focused.
