A vibrant group of legendary readers and writers who are eager to interact and embrace learning, greet me every morning. Whether they are researching for an upcoming project or writing their next essay, they are hardworking and curious individuals.
Many of my students come from environments that encourage them to focus so heavily on academics that they frequently miss out on building strong relationships and camaraderie due to the importance of being intellectually competitive.
As I focus on moving classrooms and teaching sixth grade students who are new to middle school, I believe that it is crucial to give them a place to know that they belong and are important and can safely take risks while working with others. As a campus, we are working to instill the importance of future ready skills. These include collaborating, communication, contributing, responding and embracing challenges. I know that none of these can happen without establishing trusting relationships with kiddos!
My Project
No one likes to sit still in one place! My students sit in the same plastic chairs throughout their entire day at school, but when they walk into my room, I want to be able to give them the flexibility to move around and collaborate with others. I believe students will learn best when they are most comfortable. With these portable desks, students can sit on the floor or move to an area to work with a small group. I like that these are versatile and students can use them when sitting in either a chair or positioned on the floor. Please help me give my students the gift of flexible seating!
