I am a third grade teacher in a Title I school. The area where we are located is near a naval base and allows for military and non-military families to attend our school. 100% of my school receives free breakfast and lunch. A lot of the students at my school also receive food bags to help support their families over the weekend. Of our student population, 80% are considered to be a minority and 74% are economically disadvantaged. My classroom is an inclusion classroom where some of my students have IEP's for academic needs and others have IEP's for social emotional needs. We come from different backgrounds, but in the classroom we come together and teach one another about ourselves and our culture. We are the future and learning is the key to a bright, successful life. Happy, healthy, educated students is what we are all about!
My students were exposed to alternative seating options last year in my classroom but I want to give them even more choices of where to sit in order to boost their learning!
Comfortable seating promotes the students to actively engage in their own learning.
If I can give them the tools they need to be comfortable and succeed, then I want to do everything in my power to make it a reality.
The materials I am requesting are: a futon, pillows, foldable lap desks, lap desks and wiggle seats. The futon, lap desks and wiggle seats will give the class more choices to sit to promote their engagement and learning. The flexible choices will allow the students comfort while learning to their fullest potential!
We already have some alternative seating such as bar stools, scoop rocking chairs and a beanbag chair but these materials will open up the classroom to so many more choices for the students to pick to sit in through out the day in order to learn and focus to their maximum potential.
