My students are a diverse group of young individuals from the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn growing up in low income families. My students are creative, thoughtful and full of energy!
Living in Brooklyn many of my students face challenges in and out of the classroom.
My class is a third grade classroom with 30 students. We have several students with special needs and many of the students in the class are performing below grade level in both reading and math. Despite these challenges they are active, loving, excited, and busy learners.
Truly, my students are are my inspiration! I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
My classroom is a learning environment that will offer students a flexible learning style to further support student learning by offering them voice and choice in how and where they work.
Creating this classroom will create a home away from home for them, while also offering a variety of seating options for each their learning style.
These materials will give them a sense of independence that will lead them further in their education!
The beanbags would allow a quiet place to read in cozy comfort. The stability balls will support those who need some proprioceptive input, while the stools provide gentle movement for a calming effect. The bouncy bands will help them with fidgeting while at their desk.
These flexible seating options will be beneficial in all subject areas, especially reading! By donating to this project, we will build not only successful 3rd graders, but our future leaders!
