My students are creative, inquisitive, and motivated! In each task or challenge I put in front of them, they are willing to try. We talk about having a Growth Mindset in our classroom, and so many of my students are willing to persist, even when things get tough. More specifically, I try to develop a Growth Mindset in my students when doing math. Many students want to get to the right answer quickly and I hope to instill a love of problem solving in my students this year.
My Project
My school has recently adopted a new math curriculum and I want to make it a success in my classroom. Therefore, I would like to provide my students with providing flexible seating options. This new program will be 60-90 minutes of math each day. I think that is way too long for students to be sitting in their seats! I want to create a space in my classroom for all of my students to sit on the floor so I can teach my lessons in a variety of ways. I also want to provide a variety of seating options for students to choose while they work independently. For example, I would like lap desks for students to sit in beach chairs and table top desks so students can stand up while they work.
Providing variety of seating options in the classroom keeps students engaged.
If they are sitting in their seats for too long, they will get tired and lose interest. This is very common for students with ADHD. The wobble seats will be great for those students. Flexible seating also makes learning more fun. When learning is a positive experience, students retain more information! I think this will be very beneficial for my students.
