My school campus sits in a working-class neighborhood where parents and families are striving to give their children a better education. They work hard to give their students the opportunities and skills needed to pursue a college education. My students hail from all over the world, from Mexico to the Middle East, making our campus both ethnically and socioeconomically diverse. This makes my job more challenging and rewarding as I strive to teach students who not only have different cultural backgrounds but come to kindergarten at vastly different academic levels.
I hope to give my kindergarten students a strong educational foundation as well as the grace, humility, and compassion to achieve their dreams.
My Project
Right now my classroom has 5 traditional tables and 25 traditional student seats. I'd like your help to change that!
Giving students choice seating and a flexible learning environment empowers them to engage in collaborative learning.
The most important aspect of flexible seating is changing the mindsets of teachers and students to make learning a more of a personal journey for each child.
Students having a choice in how and where they want to work in a classroom can help them feel more comfortable and focused. When students feel relaxed they are better able to meet their full potential while working to learn new skills. With these table seats students can sit anywhere on the floor and comfortably work! They can also be used to help facilitate small reading groups on the carpet.
