Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a self-contained kindergarten class of 7 students with developmental delays and/or Autism at a Title I school. Their needs are in multiple areas: pre-academics, social, behavior, communication, sensory, fine and gross motor. We celebrate all skills students learn as it may take them longer to gain a skill than other students. They need and require different methods and modes of teaching as well as reinforcement, more than your typical child needs.
My Project
Help give my students flexible seating choices and being part of the classroom during group instruction. My students are in a self-contained Kindergarten special education classroom.
My student will benefit from a variety of flexible seating options in our classroom to help them be attentive and access instruction.
Many of my students are still developing attention skills.
With flexible seating options such as wobble stools, balance ball chair, and rocking chairs, my students will be able to receive the movement input they need while being part of the class and attending and participating in instruction.
Kindergarteners are full of energy and excitement, and are eager to learn. I want to create an environment where students feel free and comfortable to learn. When given a choice of seating and active learning, students will feel a sense of authentic learning and success, and be able to access instruction.
