Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are bright, energetic first graders. My students are from a low socio-economic area and almost all of my students participate in the free lunch program. They are full of energy and would benefit from a flexible seating plan in our classroom. It would be put to great use in my classroom. The students would have a variety of options available instead of just the traditional student desk and chair. This would support learning because my students would be given more options to learn comfortably.

My Project

The ottoman and ball chairs will make a positive addition to my classroom. The students will be given more options in their learning by choosing a comfortable place to learn. It also gives the students a sense of ownership in the classroom when they are given choices. All of my students have thrived when they were given more of a voice and allowed to make more choices in the classroom. It allows the students to recognize that their opinions and feelings are important and are validated. I feel that the children will enjoy having a classroom they can be proud of.
