Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am moving to a new school and grade level. The school I will be teaching at is a Title 1 Tier 1 school in Las Vegas, NV. I have not had the privilege to meet my new students yet, but I do have a strong idea of what they'll need to be successful in the classroom.
I'm going to be teaching kindergarten this year.
I am super excited to see what the new school year will bring with a new group of 20+ kindergarteners.
My Project
I am working on designing my kindergarten classroom seating. Children in kindergarten should have choices for seating to accommodate their different learning styles. I really want to be able to increase student choice to at least three types of flexible seating.
This flexible seating, the Classroom Carpet, Tree Seats, Canopy, and Wobble Cushions, can be used and easily moved around the classroom as needed for learning different content and activities.
Kindergartners need to move. The wobble cushions will help them with their wiggles so they can focus on their work. The canopy, tree seats, and carpet will give students creative spaces to work and play. I want to give students the chance to choose what works best for them to empower them and to help them cultivate ownership over their learning. I believe this will help foster a positive whole classroom community.
