"Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." Over 100 learners will walk through my door each day, ready to READ! I have the pleasure of teaching reading in my hometown to a fantastic group of students who will one day lead!
I don't know my upcoming group of students yet, but what I do know, is that all students can learn in a well equipped & comfortable classroom.
A well equipped, comfortable classroom allows students to be creative and inspired. I have noticed a difference in student performance when the classroom is inviting and comfortable. In addition, I have noticed and increase in student engagement and performance with the implementation of flexible seating because it allows students to take charge of their learning!
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them and their learning style. Students can choose to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating and engaging them to learn and do their best work.
I have selected several alternative seating options to accommodate a wide variety of learners. The Gaiam Balance Ball and the Gaiam Balance Ball Chairs will allow some movement for students who have trouble sitting still and provide comfortable active seating. The Plastic Stack Stools will allow students to sit higher if needed and provide taller students with a comfortable seating option.
In addition to the alternative seating, I have selected anchor chart paper, markers, and tab folders. These items will allow me to make additional reading resources for my students. I use chart paper and markers daily for anchor charts. And I will use the folders to keep students work organized.
I know all of the items I have selected will make a huge positive impact on my students! I just need your help to get them through the door!
