My Students
Our school is a K-8 school in midcoast Maine. Half of our student population receives free or reduced lunch. I have forty-five sixth-grade students who have a lot of energy and are a lot of fun to be around. These students have so many different talents and interests including writing, drawing, painting, hunting, and athletics just to name a few.
I am really fortunate to have the opportunity to work with such a well rounded and academically enthusiastic group of students.
My Project
My co-teacher who teaches reading and language arts has recently raised enough money for a couch and other preferred seating options in her classroom. I have 12 tables in my room and I rearrange them from time to time to change things up. After seeing how the students have reacted about their choices in the other room it has inspired me to provide my students with the same opportunities.
With a more relaxed and cozy home like feel, students will be able to focus and be ready to learn.
My students are struggling with the physical and mental transition of adolescence. Something as simple as a sofa futon for flexible seating will help my students to remain focused.
