My sixth grade ELA and Social Studies class is full of heart, discovery, learning, growing, and loving! I have students from many different backgrounds, most of whom are receiving free and reduced lunch because of their financial situations. A majority of my students do not read on grade level, but this does not make them inferior. They thrive when given the opportunity to read texts that make sense to them, and they give all of their effort to better themselves. I am hoping to enrich their lives and improve their learning one day at a time! I would not be in this profession if I didn't love and care for each face that I see every morning. Let's ensure that every child's future is bright!

My Project
Research shows that allowing students to sit in comfortable, flexible seating options greatly enhances their focus. My active bunch will be presented with a high level of responsibility of finding the best seating option for them, while feeling a sense of comfort while learning.
When you have an active group of kids that sit in uncomfortable chairs at desks all day, they become unfocused, distracted, and frustrated.
Often I can look around my classroom and have to correct a few students for not sitting correctly in their chairs or for standing. The way they sit in the uncomfortable chairs often concerns me. Their safety is a number one priority, and the chairs often end up on the floor. The flexible seating options, like this mesh chair and ball chairs, will help to improve their posture and their engagement.
I am asking for donations to buy flexible seating for my classroom. This will help with fidgeting and making sure students are sitting correctly. I am also asking for a class set of Number The Stars to do a read-aloud with my class, as well as a large classroom fire-rated rug. The rug also offers a chance for different seating and laid back learning.
