As a dual-language bilingual fourth grade teacher, I have a combined class of Spanish native speakers and English native speakers. My students study reading, writing, math, science, and social studies in both Spanish and English.
My students come to school to receive a high quality education.
However, they face many roadblocks. The majority of my students come from low income households in which they struggle to have their basic needs met on a daily basis. This can cause an immense amount of stress on them, making it hard for them to cope with school situations and being ready to learn. I am hopeful of boosting their ability to overcome these challenges by providing movement activities, community building activities, flexible seating options and by creating a safe environment to learn.
My Project
My students struggle to focus during instructional and independent work times. With the two exercise ball chairs, it will help to provide more options for students to stay focused during these important learning times.
My students will thrive with mindfulness activities.
Since the beginning of the school year, we have been focusing on mindfulness and yoga activities. With the cold weather, students have been having indoor recess. This causes the students to struggle even more during independent and instructional time due to extra "wiggles." To help them let out this extra energy, we are looking for new mindfulness games and activities to help us focus more on our learning and be successful.
