Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my project! My school is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which is the most culturally diverse city in The United States. In my classroom, 60% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. Most of them have never had pre-school or daycare experience. Two of my students speak no English.
My students need a way to engage in learning without being asked to sit cross legged on the carpet.
I am starting this project to allow flexible seating while in a group setting. I have found that small rockers and plastic desks during their reading block, allows them personal space and various ways to engage in reading, writing and word work. I think giving them the opportunity to have this in a group seating, will allow students to be safe and feel engaged.
My Project
In education, we are evolving to find the best way for our students to learn. We are dealing with more students who have attention problems and impulse problems. We are expecting kids to conform to the way we would sit on the carpet, since we started using carpet time in Elementary School.
I believe that funding my project will allow my students flexibility to have wiggle time while engaging in whole group activities.
This will also help them with staying in their own personal space; therefore allowing my students to stay safe. Often I see students wiggling and hurting other students or crawling over to "talk" and getting in their face, when they should be listening. My students need balance balls and wobble chairs while in a group to engage in learning and to be safe.
