A Behavior support classroom is a flexible, safe and supportive space for students with mixed abilities, emotions, and goals. My students are energetic, determined and free-spirited. Each child in my classroom wants to succeed and have positive experiences in the school environment. Some of my students are learning how to appropriately express themselves using their words, while others are learning to control the impulsive verbal and physical behaviors that have the potential to negatively impact their education. Additionally, all students are welcome to visit my room by choice during independently driven times such as homeroom, Fun Friday and A.P with teacher permission.
All of my students have unique personalities and strengths that they contribute to our learning environment.
In order to best meet their needs and showcase their potential, we need a flexible learning environment that promotes learning comfortably. Students, particularly students that are high energy, learn best in environments that provide choices. I want to be able to offer my students the best atmosphere possible, with furniture choices that encourage enjoyable education. All students deserve a learning environment that offers comfort, opportunity and productive conversation.
My Project
The high table, freestanding portable lap desk, desk chairs and activity table with chair balls will allow my students to have options that meet their mental and physical needs as they learn. Empowering students to take control of their environment, will also encourage them to take ownership of their education. When students feel calm, comfortable and confident, they retain more facts and information.
Allowing my students the option to have a more dynamic classroom with multiple seating options, also allows them to cope with their wiggles and extra energy, in a productive manner.
It is necessary to allow students to be themselves, while also teaching them how to appropriately participate in the instructional setting.
