My classroom is full of all sorts of students...bashful, high energy, witty, intense, joyful, creative, rambunctious, and determined. These students each have different strengths that make them unique, but all the students have something in common...eagerness to learn and become stronger in what they know.
I teach in a small school in Michigan where our parents are highly involved and their children are eager to learn.
Our community is surrounded by farmland and is rich with tradition. The children in my class encourage each other and are learning to be risk takers. It's an exciting year in first grade!
My Project
We are so busy learning in all areas of our classroom. We are on the carpet for story time and board work; yoga mats, benches or laundry baskets are used for our reading and writing centers; and during our whole group learning, the students are in traditional chairs at tables.
Flexibility is the name of the game!
The traditional chairs at our tables are great but, it would be an even stronger learning environment to have the option of Hokki Stools at some of the tables in our classroom! The Hokki stools are great for core strength. They wobble a bit to allow for movers and shakers to rock without disturbing their peers. The Hokki Stools are also light, allowing the students to be able to move them during independent learning time to other areas of the classroom!
