My students are a group of bright, eager-minded second graders. They love being challenged and being able to push themselves to go as far as they can.
They are dreamers, thinkers, questioners, engineers, artists, builders, scientists, writers, and so much more.
They love to move, dance, sing, create, and collaborate. I have a quote posted on the outside of my door that reads: "The future of the world is inside this classroom." That could not be more true.
Being from a small town my students are all very familiar and fond of one another. They are all growing and learning in a close, tight-knit community. They treat their classmates like family and all strive to help one another succeed. They love working together and learning from each other.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to be in control of "where" they learn and work. During independent work and lessons, students are allowed to choose an area to sit, in which they are comfortable, but can also maintain focus. Making sure that students are comfortable is essential in motivating them. When students are given the choice to choose their seating, they gain a sense of control and pride in their learning. At this time, students are choosing to work at different tables, on the floor with clipboards, or at a counter space. They make smart choices when they choose seating, are more engaged, and get more completed since they are in a "fun" and different place.
It's evident that my students are more engaged in their work and lessons, and less disruptive towards their peers when they are given the choice to sit and work.
The items I have selected will provide additional flexible seating that will further students' effective learning and choices. These are items that have been proven by other teachers to be effective for and enjoyed by students. The wooden cushions will provide comfortable seating for those students who choose to work on the floor. These will pair with the "coffee table" allowing students to also group together. The hightop table will provide seating for students who like to stand while working (which is more than you think), or sit on a stool. The cube storage will act as a bench for those who like to sit but not have a desk in front of them and the area rug will act as a workspace for those who like working on the floor with clipboards.
I've truly seen a positive impact that choice can have on my students' work and attitude and know these products will help even more!
