Help me give my students the ability to learn with flexible seating that will give them options on where to sit to better learn.

My Project

My second graders are experiencing in-person school for the first time. They are learning how to be students and follow directions. They are working towards grade-level skills with reading, math, and writing. My second graders work in small groups for most of the day. They have learned to share supplies and work together.

My students are more engaged when they are given the choice of where to work.

They are special because they love to learn and help others. We have tables in our classroom, instead of desks, to allow for collaboration and partner work. Having flexible seating options will allow the students to pick where they will learn best. They need to make good choices on where to sit to maximize their learning.

Right now we have some flexible seating options in our classroom such as; the rug (with scoop chairs), tables with wobbly stools, a table with cushions, and a standing desk. Having more options of where to sit such as on the ottomans and floor cushions I am asking for would give the students more choices when deciding where they would learn best. Giving the students a choice can positively affect the students' work and give them the power to feel control over their learning.

I have seen, first hand, students thrive in an environment where they get to make choices about their seating. I am excited to see what these new seating options can do for my students.
