I am a first grade teacher at a wonderful school where I truly feel supported as a teacher and a mom. My students are diverse in their backgrounds, learning styles and current academic abilities. I see them all as the unique children they are and do my best to nurture their gifts and inspire their love of learning. Last year's reported information on my campus shows an enrollment of 848 students of which 26.2% were economically disadvantaged and 22.9% at-risk. We currently have 982 students enrolled at our campus and do not have the final information regarding socioeconomic status available for this year. As a still new teacher, I am building my classroom resources and want to accommodate ALL learners especially in our new circumstances of social distancing.
My Project
This is a challenging year in the classroom with such young children learning to social distance. We are challenged with not being able to gather closely together to enjoy a story or partner up around the classroom for collaborative learning like we normally would. This is difficult for young children who are not designed to sit at their desks all day. Flexible seating and special lighting help all learners in any time, but this year may well be the most crucial in making the most of our circumstances. These items would make a huge difference in our learning environment and provide great comfort to my favorite little learners!
