Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education Teacher (Life Skills) at SH Elementary School in Port Arthur, Texas. Most of my students sustained the worst water damage from Hurricane Harvey. These children have low-income households to where they can not even afford to repair the damages. Due to the hurricane most of them were displaced. I teach all subjects, even specials if needed, to students in grades kindergarten to 5th, most of which are KG- 1st grade level. I really enjoy my students, and a new day brings new stories. They come into class each day eager to start their day with something new and exciting to learn. My students' disabilities range from Intellectually Disabled, Autistic, ADHD, and/or Learning Disability just to name a few. This is an extremely hard impact for children that do not take well to change.
My Project
The Flex Space Balls will help them focus and perform at their best. Flex Space tables and flexible chairs configure multiple ways to support student interaction for small group meetings. It will make it easy to create custom spaces for independent work, group projects, whole-class presentations and more. Bouncing chairs are designed to help ADHD and Autistic children sit and bounce, which increases blood to the brain and thereby quiets the requirement for fidgety kids to move.
"Unlike the traditional classrooms that many of us experienced as children, today's classrooms are dynamic places where learning happens in a variety of ways," said Patti Clark.
The students in my classroom are students with multiple disabilities, like learning, physical, emotional, etc. I want my students to get the best, especially when they struggle to live in such conditions.
