I teach a group of enthusiastic learners who reflect the diversity of Atlanta. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, with 7 different languages being brought into my classroom.
We have a strong class community, and my students love working together and learning from each other.
They share a wonderful curiosity and eagerness for learning. We have a bulletin board dedicated to students' questions, and every Wednesday, we research their questions together and call it "Wonder Wednesday." My students teach me so much everyday, and I love learning alongside them!
My Project
We do a lot of collaborative learning in our classroom, so students utilize all of the spaces in the room for their learning. While I have provided as much variety in the seating options as I can, students brought up in our community meeting that they would like more flexible seating options. I explained how DonorsChoose.org works to them, and they were involved in every part of setting up our project. We looked at all of the flexible seating options available, and students voted on their favorites. We used a picture graph to compare their votes, and then students found the total cost of the items that they wanted to request. The following is the essay that they wrote for our project:
We need these materials because we don't have many flexible seating options now.
These seats will help us move around while working. We read a book called "Mrs. Gorski I have the Wiggle Fidgets." Most of us have the wiggle fidgets. We would appreciate your help!
