I teach at an amazing elementary school where we have a rate of close to 80% poverty and close to 40% of the students use English as a second language. My students are eager to learn and love to be actively involved in their learning. I would love to have the means for this to occur more often. Our classroom is in need of flexible seating that is comfortable and ergonomic and gives them the ability to write in a space other than a desk.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work time, they can choose a spot to sit that is comfortable and enables them to concentrate and put their full effort into their work. The only drawback to flexible seating is not having a flat surface, and the ability to sit in a writing position. This drawback, makes them have to stay at their desks when they have to write, which in third grade, is quite often. Giving them the ability to sit where they choose, has increased my student's attention, has reduced disruptions, and has them more engaged in the lesson.
The surf portable desk will all my students to sit where they want and have a sturdy space to write and ability to sit comfortably, the baking sheets will allow them the space to build words with magnetic letters for our phonics lessons and they can use them while they are sitting in their surf desks!
The rolling easel will allow me to teach anywhere in the classroom and not tie me to the whiteboard.
