Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our K-6 community school is situated in a predominately new-comer community in Hayward. Our college-bound kids walk to school, watch out for each other, and strive hard to make their parents proud! This 3rd-grade class is at least a year behind in reading and writing levels and have their minds set on making amazing growth this year. These little scholars work hard every day to meet their learning goals, make their parents proud, and be prepared for a bright future.
Our kids are ready to take on the world but lack the resources needed to catch up to their peers in other districts!
My Project
Flex Seating has been a boon to our classroom! Students are able to squirm to their delight and fidget as needed! The student centered approach of flex seating allows them to keep moving their bodies, strengthening their brains, and challenging themselves physically all while participating in class. As we hit the midway point in the school year, it's time to update our flex seating choices.
Offering collaborative seating choices, such as stools that can be easily moved throughout the room for meaningful group work, and fidget tools for busy hands, kids can focus on their learning, not on their need to move.
