Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How can I teach my students when they do not have the seating accommodations to best fit their needs? My eight students are diverse learners in an inner city public school. They have autism, emotional needs, ADHD and high academic needs. They love to learn and go to school, but they do this in different ways than other students. They need movement, frequent breaks, and hands-on materials. Because of this, they are in a separate classroom. They would truly benefit with some different seating choices as they work at a table.
My Project
My 8 students with diverse learning needs require different seating options for their method of learning. Standard desks and chairs leave them restless throughout the day. This results in standing up, jumping, and inattentiveness throughout the day.
My students will benefit from ball chairs because they will be able to quietly bounce up and down while working at a table.
Wobble stools will allow my students to have a range of movement while working. By having more than one choice for where they sit, students will take ownership in what best works for them.
These seating options will allow me to lessen the amount of time spent on nonacademic movement breaks and increase the amount of time learning.
