Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach in a public school in Baltimore, MD in a co-teaching Kindergarten classroom. Having forty-five students in one large space is busy, but exciting! The students are always learning from one another, and take on many of the responsibilities of caring for our classroom. Our Kindergarteners are exploring, inquiring, and creating daily in small groups and play-based learning stations. We are lucky to have a school community that supports student agency and personal choice in making their own learning come to life!

My Project

We believe our Kindergarten students deserve to have the best environment to explore, play, and learn! Our school's IB philosophy embraces play-based learning, student choice and agency, and active inquiry. At the moment, all of our student tables require traditional chairs and specific spacing to fit in the space provided. Our students deserve to have more options for seating that make them feel comfortable, confident, and focused.

Floor tables will allow our students the space and flexibility to have guided inquiry tables and provocations for learning at their level.
