Fourth graders are seriously the best! They are full of energy, questions, and laughter. They also love to learn and be around their peers. We are always striving to let learning happen in our room through play, practice, and empathy.
Over eighty-five percent of my students are living in poverty.
Many of my students come from single-parent homes and are from culturally diverse backgrounds. Throughout my classroom, many students speak a different language at home. However, one thing they all have in common--they are eager to learn and they love coming to school. School is a safe, fun, active, and engaging place to learn. We truly try to make the most of each day of learning.
My Project
We are requesting the ability to have alternate desk options, multiple chair choices and different sized tables/chairs for the flexible seating they deserve in order to do their best learning every single day! The seating that my students and I are asking for will add to the comfort in our classroom as well as give the students flexibility in their daily seating choices. I have found that flexible seating options help the students focus and concentrate on their assigned tasks.
With a class of all learning styles, skill levels and daily needs, this type of seating will give them the ability to move and fidget, yet still get their work completed.
I have seen countless times, students who fidget and squirm will perform better in class if we allow them to be themselves instead of making them sit still. The lower tables will allow students to sit closer to the ground, while also using a wiggle cushion.
