I teach the best second grade classroom in PA! It is a joy to teach this fantastic class.
My students just made their very first iMovies and LOVED it. We were making simple movies to record their marking period 2 goals for their parent/teacher conferences. Each student recorded their own video, revised, edited and then finally added music to their movie. This was to be merely a "practice" run that would eventually lead to our larger movie projects.
Well, the movies were such a hit with the parents, that now they are all asking for copies. Then it occurred to me, "What if we put each child's videos from the entire year on one flash drive for the child to keep and take home at the end of year?" How great it would be for the students to see their improvement over the course of the year! How fun to keep a record of second grade projects to look back on when they are in college. I can hear them now..."Wow, I was only in second grade when I made that movie!" I can also picture the next generation's great director saying, "Wow, I found a true love of learning when in second grade we learned how to create wonderful movies and PowerPoints! I still have the very first movie I ever made right here on my second grade flash drive."
The best way to sneak in the learning is through innovative, fun, standard based learning. One of the most effective tools I have at my disposal is technology. The students LOVE it, and guess what? They are learning through doing. How fabulous is that? Please help my students keep these wonderful memories alive through your generous contribution. What a joy it will be to show their very first movie made in October and compare it to the projects completed by the end of the year. After all, research has shown that self esteem is a key factor in student success and learning. What a great feeling for one of these students to pop in his flash drive at Grandmother’s house and show off his accomplishments! Thanks so much for your consideration!
