Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade at a neighborhood elementary school in Coconut Creek, Florida. My class is composed of 20 students from diverse backgrounds with various learning needs and challenges. They represent over five countries and three different languages. My students are eager learners. Every morning they enter the room with big smiles on their faces ready to learn. They are motivated by hands-on, engaging activities. They take pride in their work and are always striving for more knowledge.

We are a Title I school, which means that a high population of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

My Project

The flashlights I am requesting are perfect for my students' little hands! They are small, colorful, and have a wrist band for easy handling. These flashlights will be used every Friday for our fun and engaging "Flashlight Friday". During this time, students choose a flexible seating option, such as the balance balls, to practice their fluency and comprehension. The lights will be turned off and the blinds closed to create a dark atmosphere. Students then will read a book of their choice using the flashlight as their light.

I am requesting flashlights, batteries, and balance balls to motivate my students to read during Flashlight Fridays. Your donation to this project will help my students have amazing flashlights that will engage them in the reading process and help create a love of reading. All my students will become super readers!
