Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title 1 school where 88% of my students are experiencing economic hardship. Many students live with other family members like grandparents or aunt/uncles, many only get the meals that are provided by the school.
Together we can help every student enjoy school.
Regardless of their socio-economic status, my students have such a big heart and teach me something everyday about their growth mindset. Despite what is going on at home, school should be a fun learning environment.
My Project
Students will get to choose from various lights; flashlights, lanterns, headlamps and finger lights to curl up and read a good book every Friday during our Independent Daily Reading (IDR) time. By allowing the students to experience an exciting book in a creative way hopefully they will be begging to read one more chapter.
When reading is an enjoyable part of everyday life, children will develop positive attitudes about reading.
Finding the right book can help convert even the most reluctant reader into a kid who will want to read if you make it memorable.
