My students are learning math concepts that they will be able to apply in their everyday lives. We are bringing these math concepts to life by using the information we learn and showing how it is used in the real world.
Our school is located in a small, rural town at the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, where basic school supplies are limited.
One hundred percent of our elementary school students qualify for free lunch. What our students are lacking in educational materials, we make up with our vivid imaginations. Our students are applying what they are learning in the classroom and relating it to the real world and how it will impact their futures.
My Project
Our school has an afternoon club for middle school students. This club is sponsored by Kiwanis International and is called "Builders Club." Students work on building character and building leadership skills. Having access to a camera will help our club to document our memories and our leadership growth.
Middle school students need all the help they can get in developing social and emotional skills.
This camera will help us show numerous ways we have helped our community and how we build each other up. The pictures will be used to create a scrapbook as well as a memory wall for current and future members. These club members will be cleaning up around our school, compiling pull tabs from soft drinks to donate to various charities, conducting a terrific kids program, and various other activities.
