My students are inner city, low income children who are in the 2nd grade of the Providence Public Schools. Many speak Spanish at home.
I teach at a Title I school in Rhode Island where everyone receives free breakfast and 90 percent of the students receive free/reduced price lunch.
They are unable to get to a local library on a regular basis. My classroom library provides them the only opportunity that they have to get books. My students are taking two books home every week night, and three on the weekends.
My Project
My students are just beginning their exploration of math and money skills. These items will assist them in developing a great foundation for their future financial well being. These flash cards and games introduce my students to basic math and money concepts in a fun, engaging and developmentally appropriate way.
These tools will help my students learn and engage in important math and life concepts in a fun way.
These items reinforce the skills taught in second grade. Not only will these items reinforce basic math skills, they will also introduce my students to financial concepts that they are already encountering everyday.
