Help me give my students a variety of materials that will help them be successful when learning fractions.
Our students are very diverse; made up of many different personalities who all enjoy having fun and learning at the same time.
Our school is a Title I school.
The students who attend are mainly from low-income families. It is also quite large, in fact we are the largest elementary school in our district, housing grades Pre-K through 5th.
We are a great BIG family and all share the same mission, which "is to meet the social, emotional, physical and educational needs of all students, enabling them to become life-long learners and productive members of society."
My students are studying fractions, and it seems to be a concept that most of them assume is to difficult for them. They frequently express that they "can't do" fractions or that fractions are "too hard."
The building fractions activities, fraction flip books, and games such as the fraction BINGO and fraction of the pizza will help build their confidence and encourage them to take chances and explore fractions with excitement instead of fear.
These activities will be used in small groups, rotations, and independent practice opportunities. These materials will provide students with fun and effective ways to practice fractions.
