Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal by the end of the year is to have all of my students passing the statewide fitness test. For many of my students, fitness outside of school is not an option. I want to get them up and moving in a "fitness center" like atmosphere! Getting kids to move and enjoy it for a lifetime is a must!
My school is a title one school with an awesome bunch of students.
It is a diverse school population in a major suburban area. They are smart, eager, and thirsting to be the best they can be. Our motto this year is "exercise makes the brain smart." The parents and campus administrators are supportive, but financial constraints create a challenge for funding physical education materials.
My Project
According to our fitness data, many of the students need improvement primarily in the area of cardio-vascular endurance. Station activities are highly effective in keeping students active and engaged. Keeping students active and engaged will definitely help improve and/or maintain fitness levels. The circuit training cards, balls, beanbags, steps, hurdles, music, sound equipment and other assorted items will be used to create engaging, interactive station activities in physical education. I seek to make cross-curricular connections with science and math as movement is an anchor for learning. The stations will be utilized as part of a science focused unit taught annually at my campus.
Funding this project can possibly allow me to help change students' attitudes about fitness which could lead to longer, healthier lives.
Teaching students the importance of lifelong physical health and fitness while making connections with science and math is a winning combination! Please join our team!
