Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Fitness is an area all schools need to get involved in. Students lack awareness of eating well and working out. Young ladies work out different from the young men and need motivation and opportunities to do so in a means to promote healthier and more active lifestyles.
The student population at my school consists of Hispanic and African American students who eat poorly and lack knowledge of eating healthier and being physically fit.
Many of the young ladies in the Fitness for Girls program enjoy working out with just girls and learning how to eat healthier, get in shape, and become physically fit.
These young ladies need motivation and positive opportunities after school that not only keep them off the streets and from the negative environments they face when they leave school, but opportunities to help them change the way they eat and take care of their health and bodies.
Many of these girls need physical fitness activities that can help them loose weight as many are over weight and unable to enroll in fitness programs or gyms.
Fitness for girls allows the young ladies to participate in cardio and strength training activities in a program after school that is of no cost and encourages them and teaches them workouts to do on their own.
My Project
The various weights requested (Medicine Balls, Dumb bells, Weight Bars, etc.)will provide for strength training workouts that will aide in the various fitness goals of the girls in the program. The materials will be used to have students learn and complete strength and weight training workouts that increase and strengthen muscles which in turn helps burn calories and fat at a much rapid rate. Students need these materials to complete these strength training workouts as we lack the materials requested. In addition the weights requested are such that are at a specific weight (Low weights ranging from 5 - 25 pounds) in a means to strengthen the muscle as girls work out differently from boys when it comes to weight trainings.
This project is so important as it encourages and motivates the girls to live healthier and more active lifestyles.
These young ladies are not only making a difference in their lives, but that of their friends and family. Students are changing the way they eat, are more active and feel healthier, stronger and more energetic. These donations will make a difference as the program lacks the materials and the school lacks the funding to provide the materials.
