Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are individuals who are seeking a positive way to exert energy. As the physical education teacher, I have the privilege in working with almost every grade and student in the school. That's a lot of people when the school is a Pre-K through grade 8! The students that I get to share the gymnasium with are very energetic and interested in improving their fitness.
My students are very happy to come into the gymnasium and communicate with me on how their day has been and to learn new skills connected between physical education and their own personal lives.
My Project
The physical education supplies especially the physical fitness equipment are out of date and are falling apart. The supplies that are not out of date and that are not damaged are equipment donated by other teachers, or have been personally bought out of my own pocket.
The weight room facility has a broken weight rack as well as broken equipment.
There are damaged hockey sticks for the elementary and middle school students. The softball baseballs are worn out, and the indoor soccer equipment have leaks in them. There is no working clock in the gymnasium, and the seat and reach board is on the verge of breaking. Unfortunately the money adds up and some equipment is too expensive to pay by myself. With the items selected, the students can use the new equipment with sighs of relief, knowing that they have updated equipment like a working clock, a weight rack, new hockey sticks, indoor softballs and soccer balls.
With this project, it will improve student engagement by supplying them with up to date fitness equipment to help improve their fitness. The project will provide students the opportunity to engage in more activity without constantly fixing the equipment after use. This project will also benefit the teachers because it will allow them to properly test students with the correct physical fitness standards. The school funding for such projects unfortunately has no budget for the physical education department. This project would be greatly beneficial for our school and would be appreciated by the staff and students.
