Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a TK-5 Title I school where the majority of the students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our school is located in the heart of a mostly Hispanic, hardworking community.
My class is composed of 24 energetic, bilingual students who are working hard to become biliterate.
All of my students are of Hispanic descent and are learning English as a second language. Some of them are new to the country and a few have already been reclassified, which means they are no longer considered English Language Learners. My students are learning in a Dual Language setting, which means they are receiving instruction 50% of the time in Spanish and 50% in English.
My Project
My students are very energetic and love sports. We teach physical education 100 minutes a week but the activities and games we play are limited due to the lack of PE equipment.
We all know that there is a direct correlation between physical education and the students' academic achievement.
Therefore, we want to provide our students with multiple opportunities to improve their physical fitness through different sports and games during PE time. The dodge balls, basketballs, soccer balls and the rest of the equipment we are requesting will help the students practice motor skills such as throwing, catching, and running, as well as eye-hand coordination. This equipment will also allow students to practice social skills by collaborating, strategizing and solving problems in teams.
