Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am requesting funding to purchase fitness videos and CDs for the eighteen first grade students in my class. These videos and CDs will provide the students with opportunities to exercise and get their bodies and minds in shape. For a while I have been very concerned about the general well-being of my students because many of them are overweight and do not exert themselves as much as they should. Through workshops and other training opportunities I have recently learned about the benefits of the students being physically fit. I feel that if my students are in good shape physically they will be in better shape to learn. Many of the activities that we do in class do not involve a great deal of movement and I want to create a balance with the level of activity that the students experience daily. My school requires students to have at least thirty minutes of physical activity each day. I would like to have the exercise videos and CDs so that my first grade students (and others if the teachers wish to borrow the material) can experience physical activity in a fun and exciting way. I plan to participate with my students as they exercise using fun songs which promote fitness. Thank you for your consideration.
