Due to Hurrican Harvey, my students had a very difficult year having to share space with another campus.
I see my students only once a week for physical education. During that one day, we work hard to stay moving and learn the importance of being physically active. My kids love to play and compete with one another. They push each other to be better and work harder every day.
For some students, this is the only time they will get to move and exercise. The gym is a safe place for them to be themselves and build relationships with their peers through play. They are always excited for PE and enjoy learning new games. I hope they always have a desire to move and play.
My Project
Making sure our minds and bodies stay fit is no easy task. After losing much of my equipment to flooding during Hurricane Harvey, I am tasked at replenishing it for our students. They were blessed with many new iPads and laptops but that leads to many hours of "screen" time but not enough hours of "move" time. Adding some critical thinking to our move time not only helps our bodies stay healthy, it allows our minds the opportunity to exercise some critical thinking. Now that we have moved back into our newly remodeled building, we would love to add new and improved equipment.
Combining physical education and the classic games of Tic Tac Toe, Ring Toss, and Connect Four will help students develop critical thinking skills for life long learning.
Not only will they be running and exercising, they will also being strategizing their next move. This makes sure we are exercising our minds and bodies.
