My students need wobble chairs in order to move around while working. With standing desks, the option of raising or lowering the wobble seat is a necessity.
My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. The income level is low enough that each and every child receives both a free breakfast and lunch. We also offer weekend meals to students every Friday. Through our after school STARS program, children (under 18) in our community are eligible for a free dinner as well.
My students are 5th graders who love positive reinforcement and the ability to make their own choices.
These boys and girls are creative, want to succeed, and teach me along the way. From the moment they enter my classroom, these boys and girls are my family. I tell their parents that we share custody as I come to love and admire each of them. I want them to be confident and successful, to realize they can make a difference in their lives and the lives of others around them.
My Project
My students have taken reading and writing to the next level. A group of seven students surveyed, wrote and presented their proposal to allow for flexible seating in my classroom. The bottom line: Flexible seating equals more focused learners which results in success! I currently have some options available, which includes four Kore Wobble Chair. These chairs have become very popular, and according to the survey, are in high demand. These same students, who advocated for flexible seating, want to bring in standing desks for collaboration. However, students simply need to take a load off while standing, but they don't want to give up their learning space. As a result, we need a chair to accommodate these desks as well. This is where the adjustable wobble chair comes in to play!
The ability to adjust the wobble chair will allow students to take a seat at any level.
With the option of a raised desk for standing or a regular desk, these chairs will fit each situation. Students need to move, they ask to leave the room for a drink or restroom break simply to get out of the traditional, uncomfortable chairs. With the wobble seats, they ask to leave less often. The additional benefit of this wobble chair is the ability to move around while staying in place.
My favorite comment this year, in regards to the flexible seating options I currently have is this: "I am able to get lost in a good book!" This grant will help these students, who want to succeed, be able to focus and find success in the classroom!
