My students come from an impoverished gang influenced community. Many of them have never been introduced to team sports. They are hard working and eager to learn new things. I want to show them that sports is a way to stay busy and stay out of trouble. I want to be able to introduce them to as many sports as possible in the hopes that they might play one in high school. Many of my students are first generation immigrants.
My job is to prepare my students to maintain a healthy body for life. I also must prepare them for high school athletics. With heart rate monitors my kids will be able to perform the most efficient exercises. They will know their target heart zone and maintain it during different exercise. We learn about heart zones but the monitors will help put the theory into action. To avoid injury my students must be flexible. Yoga mats will allow us to practice stretching and yoga on a weekly basis. Students will practice proper stretching and yoga poses to maintain flexibility for our team sports.
