Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public, K-5, elementary school in Lombard, IL. Students have music twice a week for a total of 55 minutes. My school has a specialized autism program and many students are learning English as a second language. My students love music and playing the instruments.

My Project

Adding a bass xylophone to our classroom would be crucial to students' success while playing the instruments. Currently, we do not have enough xylophones for each student to have their own when playing them in class. Students have to partner up, which means the child that isn't playing isn't able to practice and it takes double the time to teach songs to them. A bass xylophone would also round out the sound of our ensemble, adding a low sound that would help students stay in time. My students love playing the instruments and would be so excited to get another xylophone!
