"Good morning, Mrs. H! What are we going to be learning about today?" These words are said almost every day that my students walk into my classroom every morning. They are sponges, eager to learn. I love coming up with new adventures to take them on as we learn about science together. My students are intelligent, hardworking, and ambitious. They are fun, eager to learn new things, and are motivated to expand their knowledge base. I want the best for my students. I want them to succeed and know that it is important to ask questions and that I do not have all of the answers. I want to be able to help them as much as I can by providing the tools necessary to find the answers.
My Project
In my classroom, I try to create a home-like and calming environment. I have bright colors and positive words of encouragement throughout the room. I have always envisioned having a classroom that was inviting and interesting to my students.
Having an aquarium in the classroom will allow my students to learn about fish, habitats, and how to take care of the chemical balance needed to maintain this environment.
My students will conduct tests on the water to learn about pH. They will also research how to adjust pH levels when they are not suitable for the fish. I am trying to incorporate an outdoor/indoor classroom experience this school year and having an aquatic area will maximize student learning.
Students will also be learning using Spheros. Currently, I have a couple of Spheros for groups to use. If I am able to obtain 2 more Spheros, I will have enough for 10 groups of students-which approximately 2 to 3 students in each group.
