Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My amazing students come to school everyday excited to learn! Our small school has a mix of neighborhood kids as well as students bused in from another part of town. One special thing about our school is how culturally diverse we are! We celebrate our differences and the students have a place where they can feel safe and proud of who they are.
Many of our students are economically disadvantaged but that doesn't stop them from being awesome students!
They are sweet, funny and responsible! They put a smile on my face each and everyday!
My Project
One of my students' favorite times of the day is when I read aloud to them. They get to dive deep into a story and practice reading strategies along with me. I find it powerful when the students get to hold their own copy of a book I am reading aloud. They are able to see the words I am reading, notice how I use punctuation to vary my voice.
The book Fish in a Tree will help them become aware of learning disabilities but despite that we ALL can still learn!
This book is about a girl who has dyslexia and overcomes her disability because of a special teacher and caring classmates. Many of my students will connect to this character because of their own learning challenges while others will realize how they can support their classmates who may need extra help.
Your donation will provide a copy of the book Fish in a Tree that I will read with my class and share with 2 other 4th and 5th grade classes. Not only will your donation help my students this year, but for many years to come!
